At the end of August 2026 Eternal-owned Zomato discontinued Customer Delight, its in-house support centre in Hyderabad. Mint and The Economic Times reported about 240 employees affected. Other accounts put the range at 250 to 300 and said the higher edge included third-party staff. This row stores 240, the in-house figure in the main reports, and keeps the wider range in the disagreement rather than averaging the two into 270. Zomato did not, in the file we have, publish a single audited headcount. The row stays a reported closure with a described package, not a company filing.
The operational fact is a city shutdown of one function, not a percentage of Zomato. Hyderabad lost Customer Delight. The remaining in-house support was consolidated in Gurugram. That is a loss in one city and a move of work to another. It is not a Gurugram hiring surge, and the people field does not become jobs added in the NCR. The company had already been outsourcing support and pushing its Nugget AI platform. Those are the mechanisms the coverage names for why a whole centre could close. They are not a measurement of how many tickets an AI system absorbed, and they are not a claim about delivery riders, restaurant partners, or Blinkit. Those are other Eternal businesses. They enter this ledger only if a source puts them in the same action.
The package reported for the in-house staff Eternal addressed is specific enough to quote and specific enough to limit. August salary. Four months of pay described as notice plus ex gratia. Medical insurance and counselling until 31 March 2027. Ownership of the device. That list is part of how this centre closed. It is not a statutory minimum, and it is not a template for the next employer on this site. A contractor on the same Hyderabad floor may sit inside the 250 to 300 range and outside that package. Their employer of record is the name on their contract. This page will not decide which people were Eternal employees and which were vendors. The sources already separated the edges. We keep both edges visible.
The row is dated 31 August because that is the end of the month the closure was reported, not because one email went to 240 people at midnight. No campus-by-campus table inside Hyderabad was published. Bengaluru is not in this story. A reader who adds this 240 to PayPal’s India 220 and calls the sum “Hyderabad that week” has joined two employers and, in PayPal’s case, three cities. Do not do that. This page is one support centre.
What we will not infer: a national Zomato layoff equal to every agent who ever worked the queue, a split of 240 between employees and the third-party staff inside the wider range, a product-engineering freeze, or a second Gurugram event. If Gurugram later has its own sourced hiring or exit row, that row gets its own date. The citable line is: Zomato closed Customer Delight in Hyderabad at the end of August 2026, with about 240 in-house staff affected, a reported package of four months’ pay plus cover through March 2027 and the device, and the remaining in-house queue consolidated in Gurugram.
The argument this page is making is narrower than “Zomato cut jobs.” Customer Delight was an in-house support operation, and the company had already been moving that work to outsourced queues and to Nugget, its support AI. Closing the Hyderabad centre is what follows from that shift if the in-house floor is no longer the plan. The 240 is the in-house edge of the story. The 250 to 300 edge exists because some accounts folded third-party staff into the same building. Keeping 240 in the people field and the wider range in the prose is how we refuse to launder vendors into Eternal’s headcount or to drop them from the narrative. Gurugram is where the in-house work that survived was sent. That consolidation can add desks there later. It is not, on this source, a hiring announcement, and it is not a reason to copy 240 onto a Gurugram total.

Revision: 22 Sep 2026: written as a Hyderabad closure and a Gurugram consolidation. People field remains about 240.
