In late August 2026 Even Healthcare cut staff in Bengaluru while it turned from an insurance and subscription model toward owning and running hospitals. Moneycontrol and Entrackr reported about 350 to 400 people, roughly 30 to 35 percent of Even’s own staff. This row stores 350, the low end of that range, and stays reported. Even had not issued a detailed public headcount note in the sources used here. A reported range is not a company filing. Printing 400 because it is the top of the range, or 375 because it is the middle, would pretend the outlets agreed on a point they stated as a band.

The direction of the pivot is what keeps the number from being a slogan. The work being reduced is the insurance-style and subscription operation. The work being built is hospitals and clinics. Those are different jobs. A reader who says “healthtech is shrinking” has missed the build. A reader who points at capital raised and says the company was only hiring has missed the cut. Coverage noted a reported 20 million dollar round in January 2026 and a later Khosla-led follow-on. Funding and redundant roles in the same year is a familiar startup sequence when the product changes. Neither fact cancels the other. The fundraise does not erase 350. The 350 does not erase the fundraise.

Multiple teams were affected. The sources did not publish a team-by-team table, so this page does not invent one. The percentage is about a third of Even’s staff, not a share of Bengaluru healthtech and not a share of hospital employment in the city. The hospitals Even said it was moving toward are not, on this record, the employer that issued the exits. Calling this a hospital layoff would swap the old model for the new one.

The only city named is Bengaluru. No second campus appears in the stories we stored. Delhi, or any other city, does not get a portion of the 350 by being a large healthcare market. If a later story names another city, that city gets its own sentence. It does not get a split we calculate from this one.

What we will not infer: that the new hospitals hired the same people, that 350 is company-confirmed, or that 30 percent and 35 percent can be reconciled into a secret exact count. If Even later prints its own number, the people field moves to that number. It is not averaged with 350. The citable line is: Moneycontrol and Entrackr reported that Even cut about 350 to 400 people in Bengaluru, roughly 30 to 35 percent of its own staff, while moving from insurance and subscriptions toward hospitals, and Even had not published the headcount.

The funding and the exits are answering different questions about the same company in the same year. A reported 20 million dollar round in January, and a later round reported with Khosla, say investors put money in while Even was still described as an insurance and subscription business. The August reports say that model was the one being cut, at about a third of staff, as the company turned toward hospitals and clinics. A reader who opens only the funding story will miss the layoff. A reader who opens only the layoff will miss why the company could talk about building hospitals at all. This page is the layoff, with the capital as context so the pivot is visible. It is not a hospital’s own headcount, and it is not a Bengaluru health-sector total. Multiple teams were named only as “multiple.” Without a table, there is no honest way to say the insurance desk lost 200 and another desk lost 150. The band 350 to 400 is as tight as the outlets got.

What this number is

About 350–400 people, roughly 30–35 percent of Even’s own staff, in Bengaluru, while the company moved from insurance and subscriptions toward hospitals. Stored point is 350.

What is not confirmed

  • Even had not published its own team-by-team count in the sources used here.
  • No second city is named, so none is inferred.

Revision: 22 Sep 2026: kept as reported. The fundraise is context, not a reason to drop the cut.

  • How to read a number. An announced cut, a reported estimate, and a fiscal-year net change are three different facts. The ledger labels each one.
  • Bengaluru file, 2026. Rows that name Bengaluru this year, and the city shares this ledger will not invent.
  • Silent exits and announced cuts. A hiring freeze, an appraisal cycle, and a named layoff round do different kinds of damage. The words in the source decide the row.
