On 15 September 2026 Adidas held a town hall for its India Technology organisation in Gurugram and said roles were being reduced. Hindu Business Line carried the company statement. The hub employs more than 900 people. The company said the impact was under 20 percent of India Tech. Twenty percent of a hub above 900 is a ceiling near 180. That ceiling is what this row stores. It is not a named headcount of people who received letters that day.

Two other figures were in circulation the same week and Adidas disputed them. Wocult and The Economic Times described about 350 people out of a hub of about 700, roughly half the organisation. The company said that scale was wrong and that open roles remained. A later Deccan Herald headline used 180. This ledger keeps the company’s ceiling, not the larger rumour. Until a filing or a named list lands, 180 is an upper bound, not a payroll extract.

The functions named in the coverage were software engineers, data scientists and data engineers. That is the technology organisation, not Adidas shops and not the wholesale network. A retail layoff and a capability-centre layoff do not share a calendar. Nothing in the Gurugram statement tells you what happened to store staff in India.

The timing inside the hub was also split. Coverage said one group received exit letters on 15 September. A second group was asked to stay until 15 December to hand work over. Those are two dates inside one programme. Treating 15 September as the day the whole ceiling left the building overstates what the town hall did.

This row is confirmed for the action and for the ceiling the company stated. It is not confirmed for the 350-person account. The location is Gurugram, also written Gurgaon. No other Indian city is named, so this page does not create a Bengaluru or Mumbai Adidas figure.

What we will not infer: a share of any global Adidas programme, a store-staff number, or a claim that the hub is closing. The company said it still had open roles. A shrinking technology organisation and a live careers page can both be true. Prior public rounds at Adidas are not on this row. If a second India Tech note appears, it gets its own date rather than being added to 180.

The useful comparison is not with a factory closure. Adidas already runs a large India technology hub, the kind of GCC work sportswear brands now keep in Gurugram rather than in the stores. Cutting under a fifth of that hub changes who builds the data and software stack. It does not, on this source, close Cyber City or Golf Course Road as an Adidas site. People who were asked to stay until 15 December are still employed on the date of the town hall. Counting them inside the 180 on 15 September counts a future exit as a completed one.

If you are quoting this page, quote the company ceiling and the dispute in the same sentence. “Adidas cut 350 in Gurugram” repeats the account the company rejected. “Adidas confirmed a reduction under 20 percent of an India Tech hub of more than 900” is the sentence the statement supports. The row is on the Gurugram city page only. A national Adidas total is not hiding underneath it in our file.

A reader who works in the hub should use the dates, not the ceiling, to plan. Exit letters on 15 September are one group. Handover through 15 December is another. The public article cannot tell you which group you are in. Hindu Business Line’s company statement is the document to put next to your own letter. Open roles remaining, which Adidas mentioned while disputing the 350-person account, mean the technology organisation is smaller and still hiring into some seats. Those seats are not listed here. This page will not become a jobs board, and it will not convert a retail headline from another month into part of the Gurugram ceiling.

What this number is

A ceiling near 180: under 20 percent of an India Tech hub of more than 900 people in Gurugram. Not the disputed figure of about 350.

What is not confirmed

  • Who received an exit letter on 15 September, and who was asked to stay until 15 December.
  • Adidas has not published a named headcount. 180 is the ceiling implied by the company’s own percentage.

Revision: 22 Sep 2026: the account was rewritten from the stored sources. The people field stays at the company ceiling. The 350-person report is not the stored figure.

  • How to read a number. An announced cut, a reported estimate, and a fiscal-year net change are three different facts. The ledger labels each one.
  • Silent exits and announced cuts. A hiring freeze, an appraisal cycle, and a named layoff round do different kinds of damage. The words in the source decide the row.
  • GCC hiring beside MNC cuts. Woodside opening a Bengaluru hub and PayPal cutting India roles can be true in the same season. They are not one trend.
